Buenavista, Guimaras (09 October 2024) — To ignite curiosity, share knowledge and strengthen collaboration for the future of the island province of Guimaras, the Guimaras Provincial Government taps DOST Guimaras as resource person for the 2024 Guimaras Research Conference.

Mr. Allen Daryl F. Asuelo, DOST Guimaras Provincial Director, talks on “Empowering Future Scientists:  Strengthening the Scholarship Program through Innovation and Quality Management”.   Director Asuelo presented the tools used to identify the root causes of preventing their accomplishments and identify action plans for the scholarship program.  “As we continue to implement the scholarship program in Guimaras, we will keep innovating to ensure that more Guimarasnon youth become DOST scholars and join the growing pool of S&T professionals contributing to the province’s progress’, he shared.

Other research studies presented mainly focused on agriculture and aquaculture sectors specifically on optimization of vacuum fried potatoes, disease detection and treatment practices in swine farming, soil fertility of plantation crops, impact of black soldier fly biowaste on lettuce growth and yield, modified extensive bangus culture, and the root performance of air-layered Calamansi, among others.

The Guimaras State University (GSU) being the host institution also showcased several research posters at the Graduate School AVP room where the research presentation was also held.

This event will not only focus in presenting new researches but in utilizing the findings for the benefit of the province as results will help shape policies and contribute to the economic growth and well-being of the people in Guimaras.  (MASASalazar, DOST Guimaras)
