Chemist, Science Enthusiast, and Missionary

Meet Rox! A DOST-Science Education Institute (SEI) scholar-graduate from the University of the Philippines-Visayas (UPV)—a chemist, a science enthusiast, and a missionary.

Mr. Roxzien Shaye G. Sesbreño is a registered chemist currently working at the DOST VI-Regional Standards and Testing Laboratory (RSTL) as a Science Research Specialist II dedicated in championing innovation and deliver quality services to its stakeholders. Mr. Rox graduated as Magna Cum Laude and was recognized as an Outstanding Chemistry graduate by the Integrated Chemists of the Philippines — Panay Chapter, Inc. (ICP-PCI) and a recipient of Lavoisier Award for Analytical Chemistry by the Department of Chemistry, UPV.

Through unwavering grit and dedication, Rox aced the Chemist Licensure Examination and took the 10th place. He started his career in science as a laboratory assistant at the Environmental Chemistry and Ecotoxicology Laboratory and Institute of Marine Fisheries and Oceanology at UPV. Living up to the values of DOST-SEI, Rox became an educator at the University of the Philippines-Visayas and University of San Agustin teaching Chemistry subjects.

By passion and by reason, Rox became a decorated member of the scientific community exemplifying the character a DOST-SEI scholar possesses.

His message to the younger generation, “You have the potential to make a difference, be a DOST Scholar now!”
