Dr. Souvenir Tachado, an accomplished Filipino scientist from the United States of America (USA), was welcomed as a new balik scientist under the Department of Science and Technology’s Balik Scientist Program (DOST-BSP).
Dr. Tachado has an extensive background as an immunologist, cell biologist, and molecular biologist, and has made significant contributions to these fields through research, publications and collaboration with esteemed institutions and experts globally. Dr. Tachado will be engaged with the DOST-BSP for six (6) months and will be hosted by the West Visayas State University (WVSU).
Last January 19, Dr. Tachado, together with Dr. Greta Gabinete, the Vice President for Research, Innovation and Extension of WVSU, had a courtesy visit to the Department of Science and Technology VI (DOST VI) where they met the DOST VI key officials led by the Regional Director, Engr. Rowen R. Gelonga.
The meeting discussions focused on Dr. Tachado’s plans, potential collaborations, research projects, and strategies for fostering innovation for WVSU, particularly in the areas of bioengineering, drug discovery, and development of drug delivery technologies. As an acclaimed researcher, professor, and founder of a biotechnology company, Dr. Tachado desires to share his expertise in strategic planning, technology development, and product commercialization with WVSU researchers.
The DOST Balik Scientist Program aims to bridge the knowledge gap between the local research landscape and the global scientific community. This program fosters a culture of cooperation and knowledge sharing by strengthening the network of Filipino scientists and advancing science and technology in the Philippines. (NABFactuar/KMO)
