The Versatile Instrumentation System for Science Education and Research or VISSER, a science kit that allows students to conduct hands-on experiments in various fields, was showcased during the Manggahan Festival 2023 celebration in the province of Guimaras.

The activity was part of the provincial government’s initiative to feature programs and services offered by different government agencies. It was attended by Grade 11 STEM students and teachers from Jordan National High School, Trinidad V. Canja-Sta. Teresa National High School, Nueva Valencia National High School, Buenavista National High School, and Remedios E. Vilchez-San Lorenzo National High School.

Mr. Dwight Angelo V. Bruzon of UP Diliman and President and CEO of making•technology Manufacturing Corp., the spin-off company that developed VISSER, was the resource speaker during the activity. He pitched the technology to students and educators discussing its capabilities and how it can stimulate interest of more students to take up science and technology (S&T)-related careers. Participants were also able to test out the technology during the hands-on learning session.

To complement the VISSER pitch, Guimaras Provincial S&T Director Allen Daryl F. Asuelo also presented the various undergraduate scholarship programs offered by the DOST-Science Education Institute (SEI).

Additionally, the same orientation on VISSER was also conducted at Desiderio C. Gange National High School as part of the implementation of the Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology (CEST) Program in the municipality of Sibunag.

VISSER is a portable hand-held device to conduct science experiments in the fields of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Engineering. It is a technology developed through the support of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD).
