The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region VI – Negros Occidental Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO) organized its first Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) 4.0 Forum at Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU) in Talisay City, Negros Occidental. The event was spearheaded by the SETUP Regional Project Management Office VI and staff from the Negros Occidental PSTO and was attended by 31 participants from 21 DOST SETUP 4.0 iFund-assisted firms.
The forum aimed to update stakeholders about the ongoing transformation of traditional manufacturing and industrial processes using advanced technologies such as the internet of things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and data analytics. SETUP 4.0 program is part of DOST’s strategic plan to improve and upgrade the manufacturing processes of various industry sectors. The event was held in response to the rapid emergence of Industry 4.0, the debilitating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and other forces that create deep transformations in the local and global markets.
The SETUP 4.0 program is a vital initiative by the DOST to assist small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in adapting to Industry 4.0. It aims to enhance their productivity and competitiveness through the integration of advanced technologies. The program provides SMEs with funding and technical assistance to upgrade their equipment and processes, as well as training and capacity-building programs for their employees.
The successful conduct of the SETUP 4.0 Forum highlights DOST’s commitment to promoting the development and competitiveness of SMEs in the region. With the ongoing pandemic and other market forces, it is essential to continue supporting businesses and empowering them with the necessary tools and resources to thrive in a rapidly changing business landscape.
