The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Capiz Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO) arranged for a meeting with Roxas City Mayor Ronnie T. Dadivas to fortify an alliance with the Roxas City Local Government Unit (LGU) for the implementation DOST programs and projects in the city.

Also representing the LGU alongside Mayor Davidas were Sangguniang Bayan (SB) Member, Fernando Luis A. Viterbo, and two LGU staff, Chiqui D. Hondillo and Glenn L. Amane.

Among the programs introduced by Capiz Provincial Science and Technology Director (PSTD) Juafe M. Abareles were the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program 4.0 (SETUP 4.0), Technical and Consultancy Services, Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated KioskS (STARBOOKS), RxBox, Scholarship Programs, Barangay Infosystem for Development and Accountability (BIDA), Portasol, and Bioreactor technology.

Supplementing this was an overview of the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) program by Science Research Specialist (SRS) II Mia. C. Pielago. In line with the discussion was a presentation of the package of Science and Technology (S&T) interventions that will be provided under CEST to aid identified beneficiaries of LGU Roxas City to increase their ability to address bottlenecks and problems while also enhancing their economic potential.

A presentation was made on DOST’s accomplishment for 2020-2022 in Roxas City.

Following the talks, the LGU expressed their interest in availing DOST technology like the Bioreactor to streamline the city’s Solid Waste Management program, the Portasol which can benefit their planned project of establishing an agricultural complex, mechanical dryer for dried fish during the rainy season, and RxBox for barangay health centers.

Another meeting will be set up to identify a focal person for planned CEST project implementation in 2023. (KJRGagajena/DOST VI-KMU)
