Tech training on improving product quality to various People’s Org in Iloilo held
Technology training on improving product quality such as Food Safety, current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), and Product Packaging and Labeling were conducted to various People’s Organizations (POs) in Iloilo.
The Department of Science and Technology VI (DOST VI) spearheaded the conduct of the technology training for the enterprise development project under the sustainability plans of the POs as beneficiaries of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources- Forestland Management Project (DENR-FMP). In addition, the activities are held to resolve low profitability and increase the beneficiaries’ sales by improving product quality, increasing product lines and volume, and enhancing their product packaging and labeling.
During the two-day activity, participants had the opportunity to take part in lectures, discussions, and activities headed by staff of the DOST Iloilo Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC) and Science and Technology Services (STS) Unit-Packaging and Labeling Assistance Program.
Joining the activity were 5 POs from Calinog and Janiuay engaging in food handling and manufacturing, namely, Marandig Upland Sustainable Project Association for Development, Inc. (MUSPAD) specializing in coffee beans, Binolosan Pequeno Upland Farmers Organization Inc. (BIPUFO) specializing in ugoy-ugoy and biscocho, Masaroy Indigenous Small Farmers Organization, Inc. (MISFO) specializing in piaya and hopia, Panuran Tasik Upland Farmers Association, Inc. (PATUFA) specializing in mamon, muffin, among others, and Asosasyon sang Magagmay nga Mangunguma sang Bukid sang Janiuay (AMMABUS) specializing in roasted coffee beans.
Moreover, a recommendation was made to enroll participants in the DOST-DTI (Department of Trade and Industry) Packaging and Labeling Assistance Program for 2023 to help them create package and label designs which adhere to Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standards and attract more consumers.(KJRGagajena-DOSTVI-KMU)
