WVHRDC participants recognized during the 15th PNHRS Week Celebration
WVHRDC participants bagged top entry places and special awards during the 15th Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS) Week.
1st place awards were given to Dr. Adrienne Marrie Bugayong-Janagap of the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) in the Oral Research Paper Presentation Competition (Professional Category), Princess Jewel V. Guzman of Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod (CSA-B) in the Oral Research Paper Presentation Competition (Student Category), Chuckcris P. Tenebro of the University of San Agustin (USA) in the Visual Abstract Poster Competition (Professional Category), and Leyelle Rowie Galupar of the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) in the Visual Abstract Poster Competition (Student Category). A People’s Choice Award for 3-min Pitch for Policy Makers Competition was given to John Michael Gabriel T. Zaragoza of Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH).
For the biennial Best Mentor in Health Research Awards, Balik Scientist Dr. Jonel P. Saludes from the University of San Agustin was recognized as the 2021 Best Mentor of Early and Junior Career Researchers while Ms. Carol Joy P. Remaneses from Aklan State University was recognized as the 2021 Best Mentor of Undergraduate Students for the Visayas Cluster.
The 15th PNHRS Week took place at Clark Marriot Hotel in Pampanga to commemorate the efforts made by health researchers and their extended community. PNHRS Week is set for every second week of August in accordance with Presidential Proclamation No. 1309 of June 2007. With the theme is “Health Research: Responding to Challenges towards National Recovery and Resiliency”, the conference was hosted by the Central Luzon Health Research and Development Consortium (CLHRDC) and the Department of Science and Technology Region III (DOST III).
The week kicked off with a series of pre-conference events including various health research fora and competitions all taking place in the first three days to explore relevant topics such as the managing health crises or similar emergencies and disasters using science-based strategies, evidence-based approaches, and resilient health systems.
The Main Conference opened with a Keynote Message from President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. where he showed his appreciation and support for health researchers and the medical community as a whole for their efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic among other public health challenges.
The 15th PNHRS delegation from Western Visayas was headed by Dr. Alice Joan G. Ferrer, Executive Director of the Western Visayas Health Research and Development Consortium (WVHRDC), and Dean of the Colleges of Arts of Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas, along with DOST VI WVHRDC Secretariat.(KJRGagajena/DOSTVI-KMU).
