Agricultural cooperative requests training on VCO processing
The Aklan Agricultural Improvement and Marketing Cooperative or Aklain AIM Coop sought to avail of training on virgin coconut oil (VCO) processing from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Aklan Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC).
With assistance from the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), Aklan AIM Coop was provided with equipment for virgin coconut oil processing such as hydraulic presser and electric coconut grater. To complement the equipment provided, DOST provided training on VCO processing to coop members. The training was also conducted as part of the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) program implementation.
The first day of training was marked with a crash course by Maria Lyn Ferlina Galvan, former Officer-in-Chief (OIC) Director and Agriculturist II of PCA, on VCO processing. Hands-on demonstrations followed that involved checking for the quality of the raw materials and the use of the processing equipment recently acquired.
The second day of training consisted of harvesting the oil after overnight fermentation. The VCO shall then undergo drying for 2 to 4 weeks. The oil will be ready to be packaged after the drying process.(KJRGagajena/DOSTVI-KMU)
