DOST VI, partner stakeholders gear up for Pandayan ng Bayan project
DOST VI through pandayanngbayan dental Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC) joined a meeting with five (5) State Colleges and Universities (SUCs) and RU Foundry and Machine Shop to set up plans for a proposed Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) project to benefit six Congressional Districts in the province.
The project, dubbed “Pandayan ng Bayan”, is composed of five components to be headed by the SUCs, namely, Central Philippines State University (CPSU) for Economic Development, Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU) for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA), Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology (NONESCOST) for Health and Nutrition, Philippine Normal University – Visayas (PNU-V) for Environmental Protection and Conservation, and Technological University of the Philippines – Visayas (TUPV) for Human Resource Development. Each institution will also be assigned to each district where they will undertake the project.
CPSU will serve as the project’s implementing agency while other partner SUCs are collaborating agencies. RU Foundry and Machine Shop together with the Eco-Agri Development Foundation will also serve as project collaborators.
The proposed Pandayan ng Bayan project will enhance the capabilities of the local communities on the manufacturing and fabrication of replacement parts, repair and maintenance, access to metal works and complement rural industrialization. The initiative will highlight support to the selected groups/communities in Negros on metal works, fabrication, designing and assembly of appropriate tools and equipment needed in the agricultural sector. It will provide employment opportunities and creation of wealth at the local levels. (KJRgagajena/DOSTVI-KMU with reports from GTReyes/NegrosOccPSTC)
