DOST brings CEST program in President Roxas, Capiz
To help alleviate poverty through innovative, appropriate, and cost-effective technologies, the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office VI (DOST VI) extends its program dubbed Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) to the Local Government Unit (LGU) of President Roxas in Capiz.
The DOST VI Grants-in-Aid (GIA) Program Team organized a CEST pre-implementation meeting with LGU President Roxas in coordination with the DOST Capiz. The said meeting was conducted before the project implementation to review the project deliverables and discuss the roles and responsibilities of the agencies involved.
The project duration is for 12 months with an approved budget from DOST VI amounting to Php 1,172,600.00. Targeted barangay beneficiaries are Ibaca, Badiangon and Bayuyan.
Mr. Arnel Dislag, LGU President Roxas focal person, presented the overview of the project proposal which includes the municipal ecological profile, identified socio-economic issues, project deliverables, and activity schedule.
The CEST project aims to establish the four components, Livelihood/Economic Enterprise Development, Disaster Risk Reduction, and Climate Change Adaptation, Strengthening of Community Governance, and Health and Nutrition. These program components are in line with addressing the basic needs of people in the community to improve their standard of living, quality of life, and continuing opportunities for growth and development.
Among the technologies to be provided are 10 modules of egg machine, Water Level Monitoring System (WLMS) with high-gain antenna, TANDEM (automatic rain gauge + WLMS station), Barangay Infosystem for Development and Accountability (BIDA) System, and desktop computers with printers. In addition, the DOST VI will provide seminars on meal planning and Pinggang Pinoy to mothers of barangay beneficiaries to increase awareness and improve the health nutrition of household members.
