DOST ensures R&D plans, accomplishments responsive to dev’t needs in WV
Iloilo City — Relative to the budget call of the Western Visayas Regional Development Council (RDC VI), a three-day review was conducted on the research and development (R&D) plans, accomplishments, with concomitant budgets of State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and National Government Agencies (NGAs) with R&D mandate in Western Visayas. DOST VI through the Regional Research, Development, and Innovation Committee (RRDIC), composed of representatives from the private sector, ensures that the R&D plans of SUCs and NGAs align with the Harmonized Regional R&D Agenda.
The review series was attended by 16 SUCs and NGAs, each presenting its latest R&D agenda, 2021 R&D accomplishment report, and the 2022-2023 R&D plans and budget. Highlights of the presentations include the reports on the accomplishments of the R&D centers and facilities, notable research outputs and publications, research collaborations, Intellectual Property generated, technology incubation activities, commercialized technologies, and other research-related initiatives. Comments and recommendations of the RRDIC members are consolidated and will be provided to all SUCs and NGAs as guides to achieve viable research outputs.
DOST VI chairs the RDC VI special committee on Research, Development, and Innovation. Its functions include formulating the regional harmonized R&D agenda responsive to the development needs of Western Visayas, identifying opportunities for collaborative R&D, monitoring the implementation of R&D projects including monitoring of technology adoption or commercialization of R&D results.
The RRDIC review of R&D plans and accomplishments provided a venue for the evaluation and discussions for the improvement of the R&D plans, re-alignment of research priorities, effective utilization of research funds, and strategies for the potential commercialization of viable research outputs.
