The Department of Science and Technology (DOST VI) and the Provincial Science and Technology Centers (PSTCs) are all set to conduct a scholarship orientation all over Panay, Guimaras and Negros Occidental on April 6-17, 2015.

The said activity will convene new batch of S&T scholars, parents/guardians to discuss the scholarship details and its privileges, scholars’ duties and responsibilities, as well as contract provisions.

The R. A. 7687 orientation schedules are as follows: April 6, 2015 – Antique; April 7, 2015 – Aklan; April 8, 2015 – Capiz; April 10, 2015 – Guimaras; April 13-14, 2015 – Iloilo; April 15-16, 2015 – Negros Occidental.

Meanwhile, scholars under the Merit Program are advised to have their orientations taken on these dates: April 15, 2015 – Iloilo; and April 17, 2015 – Negros Occidental.

Moreover, scholars were advised to bring requirements such as photocopy of two (2) valid ID cards, eight (8) pieces 2”x2” and eight (8) pieces 1”x1” colored picture with white background wearing collared shirt; 2015 Community Tax Certificate or current passport of Parent/Legal Guardian; Notarized Affidavit of Guardianship or Special Power of Attorney (If Legal Guardian); Notarization Fee of Php100.00; Land Bank of the Philippines initial deposit of Php100.00, and black ballpen.

DOST scholarship qualifiers have the opportunities to enjoy tuition and school fees, textbook allowance, Physical Education uniform allowance for first semester for first year, transportation fee, additional privileges for summer (if required by curriculum) and post-graduation clothing allowance at Php 1,000.00 (full scholars only).

For this year, 5,303 senior high school students qualified in the nationwide examination conducted last September 22, 2014. The DOST- Science Education Institute (SEI) said that the number of qualifiers increased for thirty-three percent compared from the previous year. Likewise, the growing figure of municipalities and congressional districts with qualifiers increased from 1,443 last year to 1,568 this year.

Through the years, the DOST- SEI continues to provide scholarship grants to outstanding students who wish to pursue science and technology fields of learning.
