The Department of Science and Technology (DOST VI) is set to unveil its One Stop Shop Laboratory Services for Global Competitiveness (OneLab) as part of maximizing its laboratory and testing services to its growing clients.

The setting up of OneLab is a Philippine Council for Industry Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD) system wide funded project through the Regional Standards and Testing Laboratories (RSTLs) of DOST. It aims to sustain the provision of existing test services and offer open-web services platform to DOST RSTLs using the Unified Laboratory Information Management System (ULIMS)”.

Under this scheme, DOST is responsible for networking laboratory transactions to other DOST Regional Offices that are capable of doing these testing. This addresses the dilemma of clients transporting from one testing center or laboratory to another to complete their testing requirements.

These laboratory services are critical in the product development as well as quality assurance requirements of the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Likewise, these services are very essential to public institutions and local government units (LGUs) particularly in addressing public welfare concerns and consumer protection. The academe is likewise being supported in their research and development endeavors through these laboratory services.

The first phase of the OneLab project which ran from June 1, 2014 – December 31, 2014 involved the installation of the ULIMS software, updating of laboratory data for samples and test requests, updating of data on the laboratory tests conducted and customer data.

Once the OneLab is fully operational, DOST VI will be ready to accept samples for local testing or by referral to other DOST-RSTLs or Research and Development Institutes (RDIs). With this, more customers will be catered and be guaranteed of timely, value-added laboratory services.
