IDLAB AWARDS BACKGROUND
The Regional R&D Awards, officially designated as the Idlab Awards, were instituted and endorsed by the Regional Development Council (RDC) Region VI on December 11, 2020, through Resolution No. 80 Series of 2020. This initiative, conducted biennially and inaugurated in 2022, is fundamentally geared towards the advancement of science, technology, and innovation (STI) in Western Visayas. The Idlab Awards seek to spotlight and commend exemplary researchers, engineers, and innovators who have made noteworthy contributions to the fields of science and technology, thereby positively impacting the socio-economic development across various sectors in the region.
Named after the Hiligaynon word “Idlab,” signifying spark or scintilla, the awards embody the qualities inherent in researchers—envisioned as possessing an illuminating passion and the capacity to inspire and instigate transformative change. The four flames depicted in the award logo symbolize the following categories:
I. Basic Research;
II. Health;
III. Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technolog (IEET), and;
IV. Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources (AANR).
