BalaiKamay takes part in training on handmade paper production
The BalaiKamay organization requested training on handmade paper production conducted in Negros Occidental.
BalaiKamay is known for partnering with local artisan communities to help them through engaging in environmentally sustainable livelihoods. Said communities include carpenters, carvers, and skilled Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
In attendance were members of the chosen beneficiary, the Crossing Ibos Farmers Credit Cooperative (CIFCC), which focuses its livelihood on agribusiness such as Muscovado Production.
Serving as the resource person was Mr. Jairus M. Lachica, former Provincial Director of Aklan PSTC and owner of Papierus Hands and Crafts.
The first day covered the origin of Handmade Paper, its development, uses, procedure, and the materials/equipment needed followed by demonstrations of preparation of raw materials up to drying of handmade paper and subsequent hands-on activities.
Afterward, the second day tackled how to dry the paper in a bulk production using an improvised press along with procedures of bleaching and dyeing the fibers.
There are plans to conduct an Impact Assessment six months after the training took place.
