New TWG catalyzes blue economy advancement in Western Visayas
The Regional Research, Development and Innovation Committee (RRDIC) of the Regional Development Council (RDC) Western Visayas has taken a proactive step in driving the advancement of the blue economy within the region by establishing a Technical Working Group (TWG). This initiative aims to strategically utilize the region’s abundant aquatic resources, vital maritime activities, and thriving tourism sector as part of the blue economy.
Comprising representatives from key government bodies and academic institutions such as the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region VI, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region VI, Department of Tourism (DOT) Region VI, Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region VI, University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV), Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology (ISUFST), Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC), and Western Visayas Agriculture and Resources Research and Development Consortium (WESVAARRDEC), the TWG brings together diverse expertise and perspectives crucial for this endeavor.
Recognizing the role of human capital investment, the TWG places a strong emphasis on research and development to foster innovation and sustainability. Furthermore, the imperative for collaboration among agencies has emerged as a priority, aiming to craft a comprehensive knowledge map of ongoing initiatives, consolidate resources, and streamline task allocation.
