Fostering patriotism: DOST scholars attend values formation orientation
The Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) conducted a Values Formation Orientation on March 1, 2024 via Zoom Video Conferencing. In attendance during the orientation were ongoing DOST scholars from Western Visayas and Bicol Region.
Aimed to foster patriotism and nationalism among scholars and instill in them the core values of a Filipino Patriot Scholar, there were talks about DOST-SEI’s mandate, goals, and scholarship programs during the orientation. Additionally, a Gender Sensitivity Awareness session was also included.
“I am confident that this orientation will provide valuable insights and tools to help you (scholars) navigate your academic and personal journey as a Filipino Patriot Scholar” said Engr. Rowen R. Gelonga, DOST VI Regional Director.
As part of the program of activities, scholars were also given a chance to share their insights during the online orientation.
Bernard Kyle O. Llamas, an ongoing RA 10612 scholar from West Visayas State University (WVSU), shares, “This question sticks in my mind, we do inspire people to lead but do we, as patriot scholars, inspire others to serve? And I realize that in school, I do lead but do I inspire my classmates to serve or to help in group activities, I guess I did since some of my classmates saw me as their leader and I do serve my responsibility.”
The Online Values Formation Orientation will be slated from February to March 2024 and will be conducted nationwide. (RMJabian/STHRDS)
