DRMMO Repair and Maintenance of Hydromet Stations
Ensuring safety and resilience in our communities through effective DRRM! DOST VI together with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (DRRMOs) of Passi City, Iloilo and Dumarao, Sigma, Mambusao, and Tapaz, Capiz repaired Hydromet Stations in their concerned municipalities. Diagnostic testing of the warning devices of Sigma and Mambusao, Capiz was also conducted.
Hydromet stations in Western Visayas serve as critical instruments for gauging rainfall and water levels. The generated data are transmitted to Bantay Panahon, a real-time weather monitoring system, where all people, especially those in Western Visayas, can easily check the near real-time status of the weather conditions. Warning devices are also vital in Local Government Units (LGUs), emphasizing the advantage of sirens as advisories for flood-prone areas in their localities, preparing for evacuation if water levels rise.
These devices are built to be durable and can withstand calamities; however, they also need repair and maintenance over time due to engineering lifespan, subscription issues, and unforeseen events that may damage it.(VMCarreon/DRRMO)
