SARS CoV-2 PCR Detection Kit or COVID-19 test kit starts field-testing this Sunday, March 15, 2020.
After given the Certificate of Exemption by the Food and Drug Authority (FDA), the test kit will have an estimated one (1) or two (2) week/s validation stage. There will be 1000 tests made for validation before it will be commercialized to the public.
“We have the moral responsibility to make sure that the technology that we are putting out there that the Gawa ng Pinoy, gawa ng Pinoy para sa lahat at para sa buong mundo ang kalidad” said by Dr. Raul Destura of the National Institutes of Health UP Manila during the press conference of the COVID-19 test kit.
This locally made test kit will be cheaper with an estimated amount of PhP1,500 compared to imported kits worth PhP20,000.00.
The Department of Science and Technology has fully funded this project from the research-developing stage until the manufacturing stage.
