The DOST Scholars’ Association in Capiz (DOST SA Capiz), with the support of the Department of Science and Technology – Capiz Provincial Science and Technology Office (DOST-Capiz PSTO), held a four-day online review session from July 21 to 24 to help students prepare for the 2025 Junior Level Science Scholarship (JLSS) examination conducted through Zoom and livestreamed on Facebook for accessibility of participants in Capiz and beyond.

Driven by volunteerism and a spirit of service, the initiative was led by current DOST scholars who served as peer tutors and guided the examinees through key JLSS subjects.

The sessions were designed to be both structured and interactive, allowing participants to engage in lectures, ask questions, and gain insights from scholars who had previously gone through the same process. It covered topics in Mathematics, Science, English, Logical Reasoning, and Mechanical and Technical problem-solving.

Beyond its academic goals, the review initiative became a platform for mentorship and inspiration. It reached 418 participants on Zoom, welcomed 173 more through Facebook Live, and amassed an impressive 46,900 accumulated views online. These numbers reflect both the relevance of the JLSS and the strong interest among young Filipinos to pursue careers in science and technology.

The JLSS program, implemented by the DOST-Science Education Institute (SEI), offers scholarships to qualified third-year college students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Through this review initiative, DOST SA Capiz and DOST Capiz continue to promote academic excellence and support the aspirations of future scholars, while fostering a culture of mentorship and service among current recipients.

With thousands reached and hundreds actively participating, the JLSS review served not only as a platform for academic preparation but also as a testament to the strength of the DOST scholar community in Capiz. More than just a review, the initiative highlighted the spirit of volunteerism and mentorship among current scholars—fostering a stronger, service-oriented community ready to lead in science and innovation.
