The Department of Science and Technology Region VI (DOST VI) has officially partnered with the University of San Agustin (USA) for a research and development (R&D) project entitled “Formulation of Turmeric Capsule with High Bioavailability for Optimized Therapeutic Efficacy” Through its Grants-in-Aid (GIA) Program.
This project is a collaborative effort between Al Di Foods Inc. and the University of San Agustin, under the funding of DOST VI. It aims to address a critical need in the field of natural health products by formulating turmeric capsules that enhance the bioavailability of curcumin and other bioactive compounds. By incorporating a proprietary natural enhancement compound, the project seeks to significantly improve the delivery and absorption of these bioactive compounds, thereby optimizing the capsule’s therapeutic efficacy.

A ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was held to mark the official commencement of the partnership. The MOA was signed by Rev. Fr. Arnel S. Dizon, President of the University of San Agustin, and Dr. Jonel P. Saludes, Vice President for Research and Global Relations, and was attended by key partners and stakeholders from the research community across Western Visayas. During the event, the Collaboration Research Agreement (CRA) between the University of San Agustin and Aldi Foods Inc., represented by Ms. Maria Antonia Fatima Diosaban, President of Aldi Foods Incorporated, was also formalized, further solidifying the collaborative framework for the project’s implementation.
During the ceremony, the Regional Director of DOST VI expressed his high hopes that the project would yield substantial results, particularly in advancing the development of locally produced health supplements with enhanced therapeutic benefits. He also noted that the project has the potential to open new opportunities in the health and wellness market in the future.
The project, spearheaded by Dr. Doralyn Dalisay, not only showcases the continuous commitment of DOST VI to fostering innovation and advancing scientific research in the region but also highlights the importance of industry-academe partnerships in driving product development initiatives that can impact the health sector.
By supporting projects like this, DOST VI reaffirms its mission of empowering local institutions and industries to take the lead in research-based solutions, ultimately contributing to regional and national development, particularly in the fields of research, development, and innovation.
