In a proactive step towards ensuring safety and preparedness of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) San Jose, Antique community, Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) and jail personnel participated in an orientation on DOST information systems and training in Basic Life Support (BLS) and First Aid. This activity is a significant part of the project, “Holistic Opportunities and People’s Empowerment (HOPE) in BJMP San Jose through CEST” under the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) component of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology (CEST) Program.

Mr. Charles Feb Q. Palla of the DOST-Antique Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO) facilitated the orientation, introducing the participants to various DOST-developed DRRM Infosystems such as Bantay Panahon and HazardHunter PH.

Bantay Panahon provides real-time weather updates, forecasts, and severe weather warnings, while HazardHunter PH assesses site-specific hazards like earthquakes, floods, and landslides, helping communities prepare for potential disasters.

Participants also underwent hands-on training in Basic Life Support and First Aid, equipping them with practical skills to respond effectively in emergencies.

This initiative aimed to cultivate a culture of preparedness within the BJMP San Jose facility by equipping both personnel and PDLs with critical knowledge and skills for  a safer and more resilient community. EDBut/Antique PSTO
