Continuing its collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology-Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI), Greatfoods Concepts, Inc. (GFCI) adopts Ready-To-Eat (RTE) food technologies such as Protein Crackers, Brown Rice Nutty-Fruity Bar, and High Protein Food Bar.
These shelf-stable snacks are rich in protein and fiber and were developed to address nutritional problems like chronic energy deficiency, overweight and obesity, protein inadequacy, vitamin A deficiency, and other lifestyle-related diseases among children. Their RTE design makes them suitable for children, the elderly, health-conscious individuals, and people-on-the-go.
To facilitate the adoption of these technologies, DOST-FNRI conducted a technology transfer training last November 20-22, 2024, which included an information exchange session and technical demonstrations designed to provide the participants with the necessary skills to integrate the technologies into their manufacturing processes. GFCI production staff and Quality Assurance officers together with the DOST VI Iloilo Provincial S&T Office (PSTO) participated in the training.
Greatfoods Concepts, Inc has evolved from simply being a commissary for restaurants to becoming a full-scale production facility for nutritious food options. It has expanded its product line to include new and innovative technologies, enabling them to provide a diverse array of nutritious options for feeding programs, significantly contributing to the health and well-being of the community. GFCI adopted the DOST-FNRI technologies to address and combat malnutrition, and to further its commitment in enhancing the lives of the Filipinos. Additionally, these technologies serve as an alternative solution to the challenges of providing healthy and nutritious food during disaster situations. (RSKJLagon/IloiloPSTO)
