Bacolod City, Negros Occidental – The University of St. La Salle (USLS) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) officially launched the Center of Aerogel Technology for Energy and Environment (CATEE) on November 22, 2024.

The facility is funded by the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD). According to DOST-PCIEERD Executive Director, Dr. Enrico C. Paringit, it aims to address challenges faced by local enterprises such as the sugar industry in Negros Occidental.

On behalf of the DOST VI Regional Director Rowen R. Gelonga, Dr. Naomi Cossette R. Luis, Assistant Regional Director for Technical Operations, expressed DOST VI’s support for CATEE’s upcoming projects, which are expected to benefit the regional economy and R&D initiatives.

Moreover, Western Visayas Consortium for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (WVCIEERD) Chairperson, Dr. Aladino C. Moraca underscored the importance of research and development in addressing community development challenges, as well as the role of educational institutions in this regard.

Dr. Mary Ann T. Pandan, Project Leader for CATEE, discussed the project’s milestones from its conception to the present and future endeavors that would advance aerogel technology research in the province.

Executives from USLS were also present at the inauguration, including Br. Joaquin Severino S. Martinez FSC, University President; Ms. Minnie O. Chua, University Chancellor; Dr. Romeo G.
