The Center of Aerogel Technology for Energy and Environment or CATEE, established at the University of St. La Salle (USLS) with funding from the DOST Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD), is the first research center in Negros Occidental dedicated to the development of advanced materials.
The CATEE focuses on the synthesis and development of functionalized aerogels for various applications including environmental remediation, resource recovery, and energy storage device. It aims to significantly boost research and development activities in the region.
Dr. Mary Ann T. Pandan, CATEE Team Leader, welcomed the DOST Negros Occidental Provincial Office staff and led an orientation on aerogel technology, which was followed by a tour of the facility and other laboratories of the USLS College of Engineering and Computing Studies with Dr. Maria J-len Jonco-Mesias.
Furthermore, Balik Scientist Fellows, Dr. Khino J. Parohinog and Dr. Keith Nealson M. Penado, also discussed their research ideas and initiatives related to aerogel technology and its applications with USLS. Their expertise and collaboration are expected to further enhance CATEE’s research capabilities and contribute to the development of innovative solutions. (RRRGarcia/DOST Negros Occidental)
