𝐈𝐍 𝐏𝐇𝐎𝐓𝐎𝐒: As the Vice Chair for Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Committee, DOST VI led the 3rd Quarter 2024 Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Committee Meeting of the RDRRMC VI on September 17, 2024, at Go Hotel, Iloilo City. The meeting featured quarterly reports from committee members representing various National Government Agencies and provincial and HUC LGUs, highlighting their prevention and mitigation efforts, including projects, programs, and policies. Some members expressed interest in potential collaborations and integrating existing systems. They also shared insights on improving the committee’s planning and potential implementations in Western Visayas to better prevent or reduce the occurrence of hazards and mitigate the impacts of those that cannot be fully avoided.
The key topics discussed were the Latest Climate Outlook for the Wet Season and La Niña by DOST-PAGASA, Dengue case updates by the DOH, and updates on Project SIGNAL and Bantay Panahon by DOST VI. Committee members also shared their respective prevention and mitigation efforts and activities. The reports were presented in a dynamic, interactive format to foster improvement in ongoing initiatives. This committee meeting is critical to share insights and monitor projects, programs, and policies to maximize the prevention and mitigation efforts in Western Visayas.
