In celebration of International Coastal Cleanup Day, the DOST Scholars’ Association of Capiz united with the local community on September 21, 2024, for a transformative environmental initiative dubbed Project LinISKO, or Waves of Change: LinISKO Coastal Cleanup Crusade. This impactful event took place along the coastal lines of Brgy. Baybay, Roxas City, Capiz, reflecting the scholars’ commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability.
Partnering with the DOST Capiz Provincial Science and Technology Office, Junior Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers – Capiz State University (CapSU) Chapter, Future Leaders of the Philippines – CapSU Main Campus Chapter, and CapSU Main Campus – College of Engineering, Architecture & Technology Supreme Student Council (SSC) Local Sub-Chapter, the event drew participation from students, professionals, and volunteers.
The day kicked off with inspiring welcome remarks from Punong Barangay Erwin B. Oroceo and Capiz Director Juafe M. Abareles emphasizing the importance of collective action in protecting the oceans. Following the cleanup, the scholars engaged in team-building activities, reinforcing the spirit of unity and cooperation that underpinned the entire event.
Through their efforts, the DOST Scholars’ Association not only helped clear trash from the coast but also raised awareness about the urgent need to protect marine ecosystems. Their actions stand as a testament to how small steps can create big waves of change. (VBDelaPeña/DOST Capiz)
