Capiz State University’s (CapSU) Fiber XMach won the 2nd Place Likha Award for the Government-Funded Creative Research Category during the 2024 National Invention Contests and Exhibits (NICE) held at the Manila Marriot Hotel. NICE is a biennial activity conducted by the DOST-Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI) to showcase the innovative creativity of Filipinos as well as to recognize the hard work and efforts of Filipino inventors and researchers.

The Fiber XMach is a device used for extracting coarse and fine fibers from pineapple leaves. This was developed by the team from CapSU, composed of Engr. Monalyn L. Oloroso, Dr. Efren L. Lina, and Engr. Julito A. Albaladejo.

This device was the Visayas Cluster’s entry into the said category after winning 1st place during the Regional Cluster Invention Contests and Exhibits (ClusteRICE) held in Cebu City last year.

The development of this machine was supported by the DOST-Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Merging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) under the Regional Research and Institution (RRI) Program. (AMIRoberto/RDIMS)
