BUENAVISTA, GUIMARAS– To identify the various science, technology, and innovation (STI) actors in the province and provide them an avenue for them to gather together and discuss their needs and concerns, the Department of Science and Technology Region VI and the provincial government of Guimaras conducted a stakeholders’ consultation for Guimaras on June 6-7.

The consultation sessions delved into the stakeholders’ understanding of STI, exploring their issues and existing projects, programs, and activities. Stakeholders’ issues mainly revolve around the lack of internet connectivity in some areas of the province and environmental problems such as pollution, lack of renewable energy, and water scarcity. However, numerous available programs from both the government and private sector could address a number of these concerns.

Mr. Francis Gentoral, Provincial Economic Development Officer of the Province of Guimaras presented the Kabataan FIRST, the province’s three-year development roadmap, emphasizing the government’s goal of improving the lives of Guimarasnons and future generations. The stakeholders’ consultation is also one of the LGU’s efforts to bolster its efforts to achieve its development roadmap.
The consultation in Guimaras is one of the activities under the Innovation, Science and Technology for Accelerating Regional Technology-based Development (iSTART) project which aims to support balanced geographical development and regional growth through STI. (CPPahila/RDIMS)
