Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Committee Meeting for the 2nd Quarter of 2024
The DOST VI, as the Vice Chairperson of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Committee, led the conduct of the 2nd Quarter of 2024 Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Committee of the RDRRMC VI Meeting on June 13, 2024 at Grand Xing Hotel, Iloilo City. The meeting discussed measures, programs, and projects that have been implemented and planned in Western Visayas to prevent the occurrence of hazards or reduce their likelihood, while also mitigating to minimize the impacts of hazards that cannot be entirely prevented. Prevention and mitigation are essential components of comprehensive disaster risk reduction strategies.
Member agencies attended the said meeting including, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Department of Agriculture (DA), DOST-Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Office of Civil Defense (OCD), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), National Economic Development Authority (NEDA), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
The major topics discussed were Project SIGNAL Updates by the Department of Science and Technology VI (DOST VI) and Updates on El Nino and La Nina Watch by the Iloilo Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Complex. All present committee members coming from different NGAs were able to present their 2nd Quarter of 2024 programs, projects, and Accomplishment Reports in Prevention and Mitigation.
