DOST VI hosts orientation on tech transfer

The Department of Science and Technology Region VI (DOST VI) held a technology transfer online orientation for the department’s personnel.

The primary goal of the event is to improve participants’ knowledge of technology transfer, and its services, and to showcase mature technologies to Provincial Science and Technology Centers (PSTCs).

In a welcome message by Regional Director Engr. Rowen Gelonga, he emphasized the importance of technology as the prime commodity being handled by DOST VI and pointed out that the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program Innovation-Enabling Fund (SETUP iFund) is about commercializing technologies and providing Science and Technology (S&T) interventions.

Furthermore, he stated that at present, the DOST Research and Development Institutes (RDIs) are coming up with various technologies every year and encourages the promotion of these technologies that are developed from research activities rather than the off-the-shelf technologies.

Topics discussed during the orientation included the technology transfer process for Public Good and Extension, Republic Act (RA) 10055 or the Philippine Technology Transfer Act of 2009 and the Fairness Opinion Board, and the TransDI Project or “Transforming Research and Development (R&D) Outputs into Innovations through Technopreneurship and Customer Validation” Project and other relevant programs and services relating to technology transfer facilitated by the Technology Transfer Unit (TTU).

Concluding the orientation was a message of appreciation by Engr. Naomi Cossette Luis, Officer-In-Charge, Office of the Assistant Regional Director for Technical Operations, where she expressed the collective desire of the DOST VI for its personnel to continue promoting technology transfer generated locally and through research.

As of this writing, the DOST VI plans to hold the same activity for State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), Government Funding Agencies (GFAs), and Research and Development Institutes (RDIs).

The purpose of this plan is to orient and let the general public know of and avail of the services and assistance of the DOST VI regarding technology transfer of locally developed technologies in Western Visayas. (JGagajena, DOST VI-KMU)
