Police officers in WV trained to report emergency incidents using Project SIGNAL

The Department of Science and Technology VI Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Unit (DOST VI DRRMU) recently concluded a series of training for Project SIGNAL (Strategic Incident Georeferencing for National ALertness). To continue the series of trainings previously held for police officers in Iloilo, similar trainings were also held in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, and Bacolod City as part of the collaboration among DOST VI, the Office of Civil Defense Region VI (OCD VI), and Police Regional Office 6 (PRO 6) for the said project.

As ground-level incident reporters, police officers were thoroughly given orientation and hands-on training on the use of the Project SIGNAL mobile application and the Emergency Operation Center (EOC) web portal. The mobile application is used primarily for incident reporting while the EOC web portal is used for incident management and response.

After each training session, pilot testing also began to monitor and get feedback from the trainees for improvement of user experience and functionality. The current system allows reporting of actual emergencies. The majority of reports submitted through the systems are vehicular accidents.(KJRGagajena/DOSTVI-KMU)
