Chicken growers from Brgy. Bayuyan and Brgy. Badiangon took part in the poultry management training conducted by the Department of Science and Technology VI (DOST VI) through its Capiz Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO).
The activity is part of the implementation of the Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology (CEST) Program in the province of Capiz wherein three (3) barangays in Pres. Roxas, Capiz, namely, Brgy. Ibacca, Bayuyan, and Badiangon are targeted for assistance.
Dr. Maryneth B. Barrios, Research and Development (R&D) Center Director for the Livestock R&D Center of Capiz State University (CapSU), was the resource person during the training. Her lectures covered topics on native chicken nutrition feed formulation and husbandry practices.
Prevention and control of diseases are crucial in a poultry flock. Dr. Barrios confer about proper health management, particularly in the identification of signs of illness, implementation of biosecurity measures, and administration of appropriate treatments. Moreover, she also discussed the marketing of native chicken products and maximizing profits. The participants also learned about the strains of Philippine native chicken, different breeds, production technologies, proper housing, and feeding.
Additionally, student interns from the Municipal Agriculturist Office were also able to participate in the training.
