DOST Capiz turnover STARBOOKS to Municipality of Panitan

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Capiz deployed six desktop computer units installed with STARBOOKS or the Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly-Operated Kiosk Station, and printers to three school beneficiaries in Panitan, Capiz.

The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Panitan is one of the beneficiaries of the DOST Community Empowerment Thru Science and Technology (CEST) program.  Human Resource Development is one of the main components, which aims to bridge technological gaps and promote the learning of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in schools in the province.

Dubbed as the country’s First Philippine S&T Digital Library, STARBOOKS is a stand-alone information source, which contains digitized S&T-based educational and learning resources for geographically-isolated schools and local government units.  Furthermore, the materials are presented in various formats with contents set to enhance the educational competence of the students.

Moreover, a virtual orientation on the use and operation of STARBOOKS was recently conducted by Mr. Therdione B. Gabinera of the DOST VI-Knowledge Management Unit .  Following the activity is the hands-on demonstration, facilitated by Ramsey V. Bercades and Leo Sim C. Soldevilla of DOST Capiz.

Present in the online activity are Mr. Dave Errol P. Alania, PDO III of LGU Panitan and representatives from the three school beneficiaries, Antonio Belo Memorial Integrated School, Tinigban Integrated School, and Leodegario D. Deocampo Sr. National High School.

The deployment of STARBOOKS is timely as the Province of Capiz is now under Alert Level 1 and schools are preparing for the face-to-face learning setup.  (DOST VI-KMU with reports from RVBercades/MCPielago)
