The Department of Science and Technology Regional Office VI hosted a chemical safety training attended by personnel from the Philippine National Police (PNP) Region VI.
The seven-day online training entitled, “Basic Training Course for PNP Personnel on the Fundamentals of Chemical Safety and Safety Data Sheet (SDS)” was spearheaded by President of the Integrated Chemists of the Philippines, Dr. Fabian M. Dayrit, in collaboration with DOST-Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technologies Research and Development (PCIEERD), Integrated Chemists of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, and the Philippine National Police. It was attended by PNP participants from different regions.
DOST VI-RSTL headed by Ms. Ma. Lina B. Gelonga facilitated the conduct of the training at the DOST VI Training Room. Joining the training as participants at the same time moderators were DOST VI-RSTL Chemists, Mr. Roxzien Shaye G. Sesbreño, Ms. Rose Nhel B. Valente and Ms. Xamantha Felika A. Layson.
With an aim to enhance the understanding of participants on the importance of chemical safety when dealing with controlled chemicals particularly those that serve as precursors for explosives, the training delved into various topics. This included lectures on general chemistry, chemical reactivity, controlled chemicals classification, explosive chemicals, relevant laws and regulations, basic toxicology and first aid.
