The highly anticipated SineAI Workshop officially commenced on July 16, 2025, marking the beginning of a three-day immersive experience aimed at integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into filmmaking.

As a pre-event of the larger AI Fest 2025 that will be held on August 11-13,2025, the workshop gathered 47 student participants from various schools and state universities and colleges (SUCs) across Region VI who are eager to explore the intersection of AI and arts.

Headed by Mr. Gavin Lim, an award-winning media and film industry professional and the founder and CEO of the Black Tactical Unit and the Void Deck and Void Deck Films Singapore, today’s kickoff session set the stage for an intensive lecture and workshop on creative foundations.

Discussions on AI in storytelling shed understanding on deepfakes, ChatGPT as a tool, and effective prompting basics. Demonstrations and hands-on tasks were also held for AI-powered ideation.

Moreover, the theme for the workshop, “Dumdumon ang Kinaiya, Dayawon ang Kinaandan” (“Remembering Filipino Values, Celebrating Traditions”) encourages participants to weave local culture and heritage into their AI-driven cinematic outputs by the end of this three-day workshop.

The next two days of the SineAI workshop anticipates an exciting and hands-on learning experience will focus on AI-scriptwriting, visuals, sound, and edit, and AI ethics and copyright. Student participants, in groups, are expected to produce a final short film project which will be presented, peer-reviewed, and will be provided with a feedback by the Mr. Lim and workshop facilitators.

The SineAI workshop aims to equip the next generation of local creatives in the region with the skills and ethical understanding necessary to harness AI’s transformative assistance in filmmaking, as to ensure that technological advancement goes hand-in-hand with responsible and culturally resonant storytelling.

The outputs of these workshops are eagerly anticipated to be publicly screened as part of the AI Fest 2025 in August. (GSNiervo/DOST VI-KMO; Photos by JRAdorador)
