The Department of Science and Technology Region VI (DOST VI), in partnership with Capiz State University (CapSU)– Pontevedra Campus, conducted a two-day training in Brgy. Binuntucan, Pontevedra, Capiz to support the development of value-added milk products.

The training, under the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) program, focused on the production of milk soap and milk spread.

On May 5, 2025, Ms. Bombe C. Castaños from the Philippine Carabao Center led the session on milk soap making for local farmers, discussing the complete process, emphasizing safety measures, hygiene practices, ingredient handling, and the proper use of personal protective equipment. The training included a hands-on demonstration, guiding participants through each step from mixing and molding to curing.

On May 6, 2025, Dr. Marife R. Hilapad of CapSU–Mambusao Satellite College conducted a session on milk spread production, providing a step-by-step demonstration, covering ingredient selection, cooking techniques, and methods for extending shelf life. Dr. Hilapad also emphasized the importance of food safety and proper hygiene to ensure the milk spread is safe for consumption and meets health standards.

More than introducing a practical, science-based approach that farmers can use to turn milk into income-generating products, this initiative reflects DOST VI’s commitment to bringing science and technology closer to communities by leading programs that promote innovation, sustainability, and inclusive growth in the region.
