The Department of Science and Technology VI (DOST VI), through its Aklan Provincial Office (DOST-Aklan) and Regional Standards and Testing Laboratories-Metrology Laboratory (RSTL-MTRL), conducted a public training on the introduction and fundamentals of metrology to the local government officials and vendors from different municipalities of Aklan namely, Numancia, Makato, Tangalan, Ibajay, Nabas, and Malay.

This initiative primarily aims to educate participants on the Philippine Legal Metrology Framework, a system of regulations and controls applied to measuring instruments and measurement to ensure accuracy and reliability. This framework is based on the principles and mandates of Republic Act No. 7394 (Consumer Act of the Philippines) and Republic Act No. 10912 (Philippine National Measurement System Act of 2016), which helps consumers receive the correct quantity they pay for.
The training session featured insightful discussions of Science Research Specialist II and Technical Manager of RSTL-MTRL Mark V. Rosales, about the basics of metrology and calibration covering the Philippine Legal Metrology Framework, calibration basics, calibration vs verification, and an overview of the calibration caravan services offered by DOST.

Adding a practical dimension to the training, Project Technical Specialist I and Calibration Officer of RSTL-MTRL Kirk A. Aguirre provided a hands-on demonstration on the proper verification of weighing scales to equip participants with the necessary skills to identify and ensure the accuracy of weighing instruments commonly used in commercial transactions.
