More than 5,000 senior high school students across Western Visayas are set to take the 2025 Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) Undergraduate Scholarship Examination on April 5 and 6, 2025.

Qualified applicants from Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, and Iloilo will sit for the exam at 13 designated testing centers across the region, vying for a chance to become DOST-SEI scholars.

The DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarship Program aims to support talented and deserving students with high aptitude in science and mathematics, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Through this program, the government seeks to build a stronger science and technology (S&T) workforce essential for national development.

“We need more students pursuing careers in science and engineering. That is why DOST provides scholarships—to encourage students to excel academically and become part of the country’s S&T workforce, contributing to national growth and development,” said Engr. Rowen R. Gelonga, regional director of DOST VI.

Successful examinees will be required to pursue priority fields of study in basic sciences, engineering, applied sciences, and science and mathematics education at accredited state universities and colleges and private higher education institutions nationwide to avail of the scholarship.

DOST-SEI scholars receive numerous benefits, including tuition subsidy for those enrolled in private institutions, monthly living allowance, learning materials and connectivity allowance, clothing and transportation allowance, and research dissemination grants, among others.
