In a world where opportunities often seem reserved for the privileged, some stories stand out—defying the odds and inspiring resilience. One such story is that of Rogin L. Ubamos, a dedicated DOST-SEI undergraduate scholar who overcame poverty and the absence of parental support to become a beacon of hope in Information Technology (IT) and community service.

Growing up in a financially challenged household, Rogin faced numerous obstacles in pursuing higher education. However, receiving the scholarship from the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) became a turning point, opening doors he once thought were beyond his reach.

“The scholarship was my gateway to discovering my potential as an IT student,” Rogin shared. “Without it, I might not have even ventured into this field due to financial constraints.”

Beyond academics, his scholarship journey provided opportunities to attend conferences and seminars across the country, experiences that proved transformative in shaping his leadership skills and technological insights.
“Being exposed to different places and people has allowed me to experience technology firsthand and gain a deeper understanding of its potential to solve real-world problems,” he remarked.

Rogin’s passion for technology extended beyond personal growth—it became a tool for social good. Driven by a desire to give back, he spearheaded community outreach programs promoting digital literacy in underserved areas. Collaborating with various organizations, he organized workshops to introduce basic computer skills to children and students with limited access to technology.

“Education is a powerful tool for change, and I wanted to share what I’ve learned to empower others,” he explained. “Seeing the excitement on their faces as they learned new skills was incredibly fulfilling.”

is commitment to community service extended to mentoring younger students, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, guiding them through DOST scholarship applications and inspiring them to explore STEM fields.

Balancing academic responsibilities with extracurricular engagements and community outreach required exceptional time management and determination. “Growing up without parental support taught me resilience and perseverance,” he shared. “The DOST-SEI scholarship validated my potential and gave me the confidence to keep pushing forward.”

Looking ahead, Rogin envisions a future where technology drives inclusive development. He aspires to integrate his technical expertise with social responsibility, contributing to the Philippines’ technological advancement while ensuring its benefits reach even the most marginalized communities.
