The Department of Science and Technology VI (DOST VI), in partnership with the Iloilo City Government’s Local Economic Development and Investment Promotion (LEDIP) Office, aimed to empower the Solo Parents’ Group of Iloilo City through enhancing the capacity of food processors from micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

As part of this initiative, graduates of the Food Processing Training Course under the Iloilo City Government’s Uswag Negosyo Academy took part in a two-day technology training from January 30 to 31, 2025 to further develop the skills necessary for advancing their business ventures. The training sessions covered the Basics of Food Safety with an introduction to Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and discussions on the Basics of Packaging and Labeling and Mandatory Labeling Requirements led by Ms. Janene L. Denila and Mr. Roi Sirach Khris J. Lagon of the DOST VI-Iloilo Provincial Science and Technology Office.

Through the food safety training, participants enhanced their skills and awareness on food contamination, hygiene, and regulatory compliance, potentially increasing their market advantage in the food industry. On the other hand, the packaging and labeling sessions provided a general understanding of appropriate packaging materials and label designs in preparation for their frozen meat production. This capacity-building initiative aimed to strengthen the market competitiveness of local MSMEs, contributing to their sustainable business growth and economic development.
