This initiative aims to implement sustainable solutions in Dumarao, Capiz, enhancing livelihood, health, environmental conservation, disaster preparedness, and education for indigenous communities in Capiz namely the Panay Bukidnon and Aeta, who play a vital role in preserving cultural heritage and traditional knowledge however they struggle in having an inadequate access to clean water, malnutrition, waste management concerns, vulnerability to natural disasters and limited livelihood opportunities.
In recognizing these challenges, this project will provide science and technology (S&T) assistance by educating mothers on meal planning technologies and improving access to safe water; introducing waste management technologies and providing technology trainings to improve eco-friendly practices within the community; conducting disaster awareness and preparedness training; adopting the native chicken production technology; expansion of the community vegetable garden; rehabilitation of the local community local products display center; and providing educational programs to enhance literacy and cultural preservation. These assistance are aligned in the CEST Program’s five (5) key areas: Health and Nutrition; Environmental Protection and Conservation; Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation; Livelihood and Economic Enterprise Development; and Human Resource Development.

This initiative underscores DOST VI and CapSU Dumarao’s commitment to uplifting and empowering indigenous communities, fostering resilience, and promoting sustainable development. (LNGebauer, VBDelaPeña/CapizPSTO)
