The Department of Science and Technology VI (DOST VI), in partnership with Taytay sa Kauswagan, Inc. (TSKI), has successfully implemented the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) Project across several communities in Iloilo. The initiative benefitted three key organizations: Leon Confederation of Farmers Dairy Association (LECOFADA), Naclub, Cabangcalan, Tigbagacay, and Igdalaquit Vegetable Chips and Noodles Association (NACTIA), and Alimodian Bamboo Producers Association (ABPA).

Several forms of assistance were provided to these communities as part of the DOST CEST initiative. To enhance community development, successful DOST CEST projects were benchmarked, allowing stakeholders to learn from past best practices. Training sessions on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Product Development were conducted to improve product quality, boost economic growth, and create livelihood opportunities. To further enhance production efficiency, process utensils, and equipment were also provided.

In support of education and learning, DOST STARBOOKS was installed, and an orientation on the DOST Scholarship Program was conducted to provide students with access to valuable educational resources. Additionally, health and nutrition were prioritized through Pinggang Pinoy and meal planning training, helping communities adopt healthier eating habits. To strengthen disaster preparedness, orientations on Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) were carried out, along with the distribution of emergency kits, equipping communities with the knowledge and tools needed for disaster resilience.

To mark the conclusion of the project, a Project Evaluation and Learning Session/Partners Forum was conducted on January 15, 2025. The event served as a platform to highlight the project’s achievements, discuss lessons learned, and outline sustainability strategies to ensure long-term impact. The successful implementation of the CEST Project reaffirms DOST’s commitment to fostering inclusive growth and innovation-driven community empowerment. Moving forward, the knowledge and best practices gained from this initiative will serve as a foundation for future programs aimed at enhancing local industries, improving resilience, and growth through science and technology.
