Lorna’s Processed Food Manufacturing, a proud beneficiary of the Department of Science and Technology VI’s (DOST VI) Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program Innovation-Enabling Fund (SETUP iFund) and Consultancy, is committed to leveraging innovation and support to ensure sustainable growth and global competitiveness. Known for its gourmet tuyo (dried Herring) and other dried fish products, the company continues to elevate its food safety and quality standards, solidifying its reputation both locally and abroad.
To strengthen its operations, the firm embarked on crucial Food Safety and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) training for its production workers and staff. Facilitated by the DOST Capiz and led by expert resource person Ms. Gesselle Marcon, the training was not just about meeting the necessary requirements for the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) License to Operate (LTO) but also ensuring that every product is crafted with the utmost care and safety, providing consumers with the highest quality every time. Particularly, it focused on practical, real-world applications of food safety principles. Production workers and staff were educated on the critical steps involved in the manufacturing process, from raw material handling to storage, packaging, and hygiene practices. With DOST’s guidance, the team learned how to prevent contamination, maintain cleanliness, and apply cGMP standards at every stage of production. The training reinforced the significance of meticulous documentation and rigorous monitoring, ensuring that all products adhere to the highest food safety protocols and FDA regulations.
For Lorna’s Processed Food Manufacturing, this training goes beyond compliance—it’s about building trust with consumers and setting the foundation for future growth. As the company works towards maintaining its FDA-LTO, they are also making a long-term investment in their brand reputation, showing that they are committed to quality, safety, and continuous improvement. With these enhanced food safety practices in place, the firm is not only poised for success in the local market but also ready to expand and meet the demands of the global food industry. This training is a testament to the company’s dedication to delivering a product that Capiz can be proud of. (PMOBautista/MCPielago,DOST Capiz)
