The island province of Guimaras, being a tourist destination, also needs to know the importance of Halal standards, as businesses must ensure their staff are proficient in managing halal food operations.  This can also enhance the overall experience for Muslim travelers, likewise supporting the economic progress in the province.

Resource Speaker, Ms. Norjanah C. Barosa, Assistant Team Leader of the Halal Program Technical Team of DOST VI, focused her discussion on Halal concepts, proper food preparation and handling, a discussion on food safety and standards, and the Halal way of food processing, storage, and distribution.

The participants were equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively adhere to Halal food requirements.  The training covers topics from understanding halal and non-halal foods to avoiding cross-contamination and ethically sourcing ingredients.  Moreover, they will determine ways to correct common food preparation mistakes through proper hygiene and sanitation in food preparation.

“We ensure that our client-MSMEs from the province improve their productivity, quality, and, at the same time, their overall competitiveness.  By introducing the Halal training, we aim to enhance the awareness of the MSMEs on the Halal standards, that the food products are clean, hygienic, environmentally friendly, and respect animal welfare,” said Ms. Sol Salazar, Asst. Provincial Director, DOST Guimaras, in her message.

DOST continues to be a provider of scientific and technical knowledge, increasing public awareness, enthusiasm, and support for food processing.  (DOST Guimaras)
