The Western Visayas Laboratory Network (WVLabNet) is driving excellence in laboratory practices by equipping various laboratories in the region with essential skills in laboratory quality management.

The Department of Science and Technology VI or DOST VI, as Co-Chairperson and Acting Secretariat of the WVLabNet, hosted a training-workshop on measurement uncertainty (MU) in chemical testing, aligning with the latest PRC Board of Chemistry requirements. The activity was held on October 3, 2024 at the DOST VI Training Room, Magsaysay, Lapaz, Iloilo City.

Mr. Roxzien Shaye G. Sesbreño, a Registered Chemist from the DOST VI Regional Standards and Testing Laboratory (RSTL), served as resource person during the activity and discussed about MU estimation techniques, identifying sources of uncertainty, and integrating MU into test result reporting. With practical exercises and a post-examination, the attendees were able to develop an understanding of these critical concepts.

Participants during the activity included representatives from various government, university and private labs in the region who are also members of the WVLabNet, namely, Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources VI (BFAR VI), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Environmental Management Bureau VI (EMB VI), Department of Agriculture VI (DA VI), and DOST VI, University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV), University of Antique, University of San Agustin, Philippine Negros Prawn Producers Cooperative, and ACA Water Analysis. This initiative not only enhances compliance with regulatory standards but also strengthens the overall quality of chemical testing in the region. (MBBFusin, RSTL)
