The National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) conducts a focus group discussion on good practices, constraints, and opportunities in the adoption of appropriate technologies by rural industries focusing on Abalone on June 25, 2024 at the Diversion 21 Hotel, Iloilo City.

Abalone belongs to the marginal and emerging categories of the Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) of the Department of Trade and Industry. The RCA is a trade analysis tool to measure and assess the competitive advantage of the product which the business people need to export. Therefore, the activity focused on discussion about the development of Abalone to address constraints in the production, processing, storage, and marketing of fresh and processed products.

The activity primarily aims to gather data from concerned stakeholders on technologies developed, adopted, and needed to improve the supply chain as well as to provide recommendations to target appropriate technology maturity of the commodities for rural industries. The data and insights gathered about the local Abalone industry will be useful to accomplish commissioned papers and to prepare for the policy recommendations.

This FGD is a component activity of NAST Special Concerns Program Technical Working Group (TWG) on Targeting the Appropriate Technological Maturity of Rural Industries led by Academician Roel R. Suralta and NAST Director Luningning E. Samarita-Domingo. (MLCSenalista/DOST RDIMS)
