LOOK: As part of various disaster mitigation efforts, Water Level Monitoring Stations (WLMS) in Sigma, Capiz were repaired and maintained by personnel from the DOST VI Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO).
Additionally, DOST VI DRRMO Head, Engr. Christian C. Jandayran, with Mr. Vince M. Carreon gave onsite training to members of Sigma Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) on basic preventive maintenance and repair of the equipment and on how to manually operate the flood warning siren.
WLMS are placed in flood-susceptible zones for flood monitoring and forecasting. A station is composed of a solar panel and an ultrasonic sensor device that measures and verifies the flood water height in real-time. Data gathered are then used in giving out flood early warnings to the community. The Sigma WLMS is located at the mid-stream portion of the Panay River Basin, one of the strategic locations for early detection and warning for flooding. (RVJDumpit, GRMarcon/Capiz PSTO)
