Public tech training in Iloilo tackles food safety for local establishments

This 2024, the Department of Science and Technology VI (DOST VI) sets out to provide a variety of science and technology (S&T) training courses open to the public. Conducted through the collaboration of the various DOST Provincial S&T Offices (PSTOs) in the region and the S&T Services Section (STSS), the trainings are aimed to share valuable S&T knowledge and skills to the public.

In Iloilo, the first wave of the technology training series kicked off with a training on basic food safety for food establishments held on February 20, 2024. A face-to-face session was conducted in the morning at the DOST VI Training Room, Magsaysay Village, Lapaz, Iloilo City while an online session was conducted in the afternoon.

Participants coming from various food establishments and food businesses learned from the resource person, Ms. Jhoanna N. Bolencis, PFT, MFSM, Senior Science Research Specialist of DOST VI. The public training was designed to improve the knowledge of food service establishment owners and staff on recognizing the importance of food safety, defining food-borne illnesses and food hazards, and compliance with current food regulatory standards.
